Indian Removal Underway!
After President Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act in May, Native Americans have been steadily leaving the United States to territory in the west. The largest group to be moved out at once was the Cherokee Tribe on what they call," The Trail of Tears." While some Natives still remain, should they really be removed? Some argue that Indians should be moved out because they are taking up land that should rightfully belong to the United States government, but should we really be destroying native culture? After all, if their culture is gone, how will we learn from them in the future? When white man came to settle the land, they saw vast wilderness that extended as far as the eye could see, but now, the land is being dug up, and the landscape destroyed. With it, native culture. We mainly live by destroying the land and forcing natives off. The natives live with the land. When we destroy their culture, we are also destroying a chance to discover new plants that can heal, or fuel our bodies. We have to preserve what little is left of native culture, or we may never be able to learn what they know about the land and what lives here.
